NEWSLETTER: EDClass and educational recovery for students

Our content writer Tom Davis writes about what has been happening with EDClass and its products this past month in relation to the news

The academic year is at its closing stage and education has been impacted heavily. The Department of Education has now announced that a £15 million contract for catch-up resources is to be scrapped. A DfE spokesperson said:

“We have ended the procurement for in-class curriculum resources to ensure that the policy aligns with our broader education recovery plans and recognises the disruption pupils and schools have faced over the last year.” – Schools Week

Schools must now find a solution to help their students even further. Online education can provide the help, and EDClass can assist with educational recovery.

Thousands of students require educational recovery. The pandemic has devastated the sector, cuts have been made, knowledge has been lost and crucial examinations have been halted.

“Headteachers in England are calling for examination boards to refund half of the fees charged for A-level and GCSE entries this summer, arguing that schools are doing the bulk of the work to decide this year’s grades following the decision to scrap exams.” - The Guardian

Teachers have been marking work from students and giving grades. Workload has increased meaning less time providing support to students. Recently, EDClass teachers have been marking exam papers to assist schools.

The Yorkshire Post published a story concerning the successful role EDClass has played in two schools. Headteacher of Rodillian Academy, Andy Percival said:

“EDClass replicated our curriculum online. None of us knew how long lockdown would last and we wanted to make sure there was a continuity in learning and we could maintain the trajectory. It did that for all schools across the trust for all subjects.” - Yorkshire Post

Online education is crucial

Online education can play an important role in helping students recover their lost knowledge. EDClass give students the ability to be assessed and supported safely.

Schools have been renewing their subscriptions with EDClass, such as Sycamore Short Stay and Prince Henry’s High School. Copley Academy have also become a new customer further demonstrating the usefulness online education can play.

A student who was with EDClass for three years has recently passed their GCSEs and gone onto an apprenticeship. Without EDClass this may not have been achieved.

Products under EDClass now also have demos in place with interested parties who want to explore what online education has to offer.

The Global Academy Trust has been interested in the whole school CPD package from KeysToSafeguarding and have signed up for 12 months for the first time.

EDClass encourages students with learning disabilities to use the online support it has to offer.

“Ofsted has warned some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are “not getting enough help” in mainstream schools.” – Schools Week

EDClass promotes inclusivity for all and can support any who need it in a safeguarded manner online. Community spirit is important to us, we want to see people thrive.

EDClass’ product Analysis of Sport further displayed the community spirit ethos EDClass is encouraging with a stream for a terminally ill man watching his two grandsons play at Penistone Church FC which can be viewed here.
